The unique and breathtaking sandscape covers over 15 hectares and provides some of the most spectacular views of the coastline and the coloured sands. You can even see the southern tip of K’gari (formerly Fraser Island). To explore this up close and personal, you need to make your way to the end of Cooloola Drive, where you’ll find a short walk to the sand blow. The Carlo Sand Blow is something not to be missed during your stay at Rainbow Beach.

The Coloured Sands are located 2km south of the Rainbow Beach Surf Club. You can visit the multicoloured cliff face via 4WD, horseback, or a leisurely beach stroll. If you do choose to walk, be mindful of cars making their way along this beach highway. This unique sight can display up to 72 different coloured layers of sand, ranging from orange to black and even red. These layers can also change depending on the conditions.

Located just a short drive from the heart of Rainbow Beach, the Cooloola National Park is a great place to explore during your stay. There’s plenty to do, including bush walking, boating, fishing, and swimming; there are even picnic areas for you to enjoy a spot for lunch. Areas of interest include Seary’s Creek, Lake Poona, Cooloola Great Walk, and the Cooloola Wilderness Trail.

Enjoy one of Cooloola Coast’s most special experiences and visit the Barnacle Dolphin Centre, where you can interact with a wild Australian Humpback Dolphin. If you want to feed the dolphins, there is only one session available per day at 8:00am, and fish is available on site for a small fee. Once the dolphins are fed, they generally return straight to the wild to get on with their day, so be sure to be there before 8.00am to give yourself the best chance of enjoying this wonderful experience.

If you enjoy a spot of fishing, make sure to check out some of the many fishing charters available at Rainbow Beach. These charters visit Rainbow Beach, Double Island Point, and K’gari Island so you can experience some of the finest fishing in Cooloola and the Sunshine Coast. You will encounter species such as Snapper, Pearl Perch, Red Emperor, Sweetlip, Cobia, Parrot Fish, and of course, seasonal species such as Mackerel, Amberjack, Wahoo, and others. Plus, if you visit between May and October, you might be lucky enough to see some humpback whales.

Wolf Rock Dive Centre is located just off Double Island Point and is considered to be one of Australia’s best dive spots. This dive is well known for the grey nurse sharks and manta rays that can be found there year-round, but numbers may vary during the colder seasons. Other ocean life that can be seen at Wolf Rock, depending on the season, includes humpback whales, leopard sharks, giant groper, eagle rays, turtles, octopus, pelagic fish, and other varieties of tropical fish.

The K’gari Adventure Tours offer a range of day tours, all of which include morning tea, BBQ lunch, complimentary drinks, ferry transfers, and National Park fees. You can enjoy one of three tours, including the Nature Tour, which explores Eli Creek and Lake McKenzie, the Getaway Tour, which tours Lake Birabeen and Wanggoolba Creek, or the Adventure Tour, which visits Lake McKenzie.

The fully guided tour explores K’gari over 3 days and visits some of K’gari’s most beautiful scenery, including Lake McKenzie and Wanggoolba Creek. All meals are included during your tour, and you will spend your nights in the comfort of a lodge.
